Losing weight isn’t as easy as it sounds and most people understand that it’s easy to put on but tough to take off when you try. For most people, putting weight on can seem to happen overnight and before we know it our jeans don’t fit like they used to fit. The biggest giveaway that we’ve gained more weight than we should is the change in our fitness levels which should be a red flag that maybe it’s time to step on the scale. But how do you know if you need a weight management programme to lose the weight, finally?
Living a busy life can throw you off track with your health and weight management planning. It’s easy to forget about what we’re putting into our bodies and how much physical activity we’ve forgotten to do when we’re not paying attention. The reason gaining weight is an issue in the first place is because your body simply cannot handle it in excess and our organs need room to breathe. When you have extra fat all around your mid-section, things can get a little cramped and don’t have the space they need to thrive. When fatty tissue constricts the space around the heart, we see a rapid decline in heart health, cardiovascular issues and more. Here are some of the main things we look to when we see a patient that requires a weight management programme.
Do you have a balanced diet?
If you’ve tried to lose the weight and nothing is changing, you have to look at every side of your life to make sure you’re filling all the requirements to help you lose the fat. Diet, exercise and stress management are a serious set of things that require life-long discipline and balance. If you want to live a long and happy life, think about the things you eat. Are these foods nutritious? Do they have vitamins and minerals in them and are they natural? If you can’t say these things are true, then let’s start with your diet.
We’ve got to remove unhealthy and processed foods from your body completely. These foods will bring you down in the long run by reducing your daily energy and depriving your body the nutrition it needs to keep up all of your body systems. If you’re still having trouble composing weekly meals that are the correct portions, low in fat and high in vitamins and minerals, then you will need to see someone to help you manage a meal plan.
Exercise and Stress Levels
Exercise is necessary to maintain blood flow and increase your metabolism; exercise also lowers stress. You may need someone to help you get started with your fitness plan and offer techniques for stress management. For those of our clients that feel they run out of breath moving up and down stairs, or cleaning the house, this is a sign you’ve got to lose the weight. Truly, everything we have mentioned in the previous section works together to make you look and feel healthier. Once you feed your body the right way, exercise away any excess calories and lower your unnecessary stress, you’ll be so much healthier than you were.
High Blood Pressure
This is a big one, because most people don’t know they have high blood pressure until they have it measured. High blood pressure refers to the work your heart has to do to get your blood into your arteries and other vessels. We want our blood pressure at rest to be lower than when we exercise, so the normal reading is 120/80 mmHg. If you’re much higher than this number it means, you’re at risk for hypertension and other cardiovascular complications in the future. Once you get some of the weight off, you’ll take some of this pressure off of your heart. If you’re worried about heart health and want to find a better way of managing pressure from the heart to your arteries, then you need some help reducing that pressure medically.
